Purpose of group: Beachcare on Āwhitu Peninsula
Āwhitu Coast Care celebrated its fifth birthday in November 2023 with the harbour coastline and the west coast (which now has swept Karioitahi into the Āwhitu zone). The group grows and plants and weeds and picks up endless plastic rubbish for the beaches. They have attended courses for Shorebird Minders and help protect nesting shorebirds as well as taking part in dune restoration workshops. They also host an annual coastal restoration walk.
